ABOUT GLEN AFRIC LEARNING CENTRE

A School Built Around The Child

About Glen Afric

Glen Afric Learning Centre sits in Broederstroom, on the same grounds as Glen Afric Country Lodge, a game lodge and wildlife venue. This isn’t a school built around a bell schedule and a parking lot; it’s built around open ground and the kind of attention only possible when a teacher knows every child by name.

An archery range sits steps from the classroom and from Grade R to Grade 7 our Learners attend Bushcraft lessons, so outdoor education here isn’t a once-a-term excursion it’s part of the regular week. Science lessons move outside as easily as they stay in, and Open Days bring the wider community onto the same ground our learners walk daily.

We take children from their very first year of school Grade R all the way through to Grade 12/AS Level, following CAPS from Grade R to Grade 8, thereafter an International Curriculum in the Senior High phase. One school, one community, the whole way through. Class sizes stay small on purpose, because our approach isn’t one-size-fits-all: it’s tailored to each child’s ability, aptitude and nature, the way our Mission Statement puts it. English is the medium of instruction throughout every grade, from a child’s first lesson to their final exam.

That same philosophy sits behind our mantras, delivered in English just like every other lesson: that every child is capable of excelling at something, that plans should bend before goals do, and that no day is too small to matter. It’s a small, close-knit place the kind where responsibility and self-discipline get built in early, not lectured about later and it’s meant to feel that way from a child’s very first day.

OUR ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

Grade R To 12, Every Step Tailored

Our academic programme is built in phases, each one designed around the way children actually learn and grow at that age, from their very first classroom to their final exam.

Foundation Phase

Small class sizes mean our teachers can give real, individual attention while the fundamentals of reading, writing and mathematics are unlocked. Progress is tracked closely, lessons are adapted to each child's pace, not the other way around.

Intermediate Phase

As learners grow, so does their independence. The Intermediate Phase broadens the subject range and introduces more responsibility, while keeping the close, supportive environment Glen Afric is known for.

Lower Secondary

Lower Secondary bridges primary and senior schooling. Learners take on more academic rigour, while building the study habits they'll need in Upper Secondary.

Upper Secondary

Our Upper Secondary phase follows an International Curriculum, with hands-on subjects like science practicals, preparing learners for university study and career paths both in South Africa and abroad.

Life At Glen Afric

Set in Broederstroom, our learners learn with room to move, explore and get their hands dirty.

Equestrian & Outdoor Activities

From Equitherapy to archery, our rural setting turns the outdoors into part of the classroom.

Hands-On Science & Practical Learning

Learners get out from behind the desk for real practicals, from the science lab to hands-on art and craft activities.

Excursions & Open Days

Bushcraft lessons, open days and off-site excursions bring learning to life beyond the classroom walls.

Culture, Music & Dress-Up Days

Themed days, music and creative dress-up bring colour, confidence and community to every term.
